Volunteering Opportunities

We rely on volunteers to keep running so we are always looking for friendly and reliable people to help us out at in various wasy. We accept applications from people of all ages who are interested in working with older adults.

The Sharp End members are encourged to volunteer to help us out at parties, leafletting with their local health centre, library and other areas of interest, that we would be open to discussion.  Members interested can have a chat with the  Project Cooridinator, Nazmun, of their interest and how much time they have to spare.  Alternatively, they call the office on 020 7923 0350.

What we can offer you.

The Sharp End is a friendly and welcoming organisation, ensuring all who visit and spend time here have an enjoyable experience.

Volunteering with us enables get to know older adults and see the benefits of active ageing.  In additon to trialing one of our activiteis of your choice, we can also offer you support, supervision, and training dependend on the role you undertake.  Out of pocket expenses reimursed for travel, and food for volunteers volunteering for 4 hours or more. Reference is available to volunteers who have been with us for minimum 3 months.  If you seeking work experience in areas such as facilitating, organising activities, or have free time to share you skills and knowledge, we would love to hear from you.  Below is the number for our office and link to connect with us by email.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Current Volunteering Opportunities (minimum 3 months continous commitment for each role)

Facilitator - Social Tea & Chat

Require 1 or 2 volunteers to host our 'Social Tea & Chat'.  Day 1 Tuesdays 10am - 12pm (2 hours(starting April 2018).  Day 2 Wednsday 12pm - 3pm (3 hours).  We are looking for volunteers who are outgoing, emphatic, caring and enjoy hosting and being around people.  Your role would be to set-up and clear up, making members and visitors welcome, recognising the needs of the individual and making sure board games, daily/monthly publications are available for attendees.  Regular supervision with the Project Coordinator will be available.  We request that the volunteers are available for the full duration of the activity of their chosen day i.e. 2 hours Tuesdays and 3 hours Wednesday). 

Pianist

We require an expereinced pianist on Wednesdays for 1 to 2 hours during our Wednesday Social Tea & Chat event.  Ideally you will be available between 1pm to 3pm.  We will provide a portable full size piano.  You would be welcome to bring your own music sheets.

London Places of Interest Group Leader

Trained and experienced tour leader with experience of organsing excursions around London.  Using public transport, accompany a group of members to places of interest, pre-arranged either by the volunteer or Trustees/Project Coordinator.  You will be responsible for safety and wellbeing of the group, so it is very important that you are experienced in leading a group to places of interest.  The visits to places of interest in London will be conducted on a monthly basis.  We are looking for a volunteer available on Fridays from 1pm to 4pm, with up to date DBS.
